Sustainable production in Switzerland

«I was 1000 yoghurt pots».

This was the motto under which we launched the first drawer boxes made from 100% recycled polystyrene under the Swiss brand styro in the early 1990s, long before the climate debate. It was the first storage system to be awarded the "Blue Angel", the environmental label for particularly environmentally friendly products and services.

This makes styro ag one of the pioneers in the field of environmentally friendly office products and one of the few manufacturers to produce high-quality filing systems from regenerated material. A good third of styro's production now consists of recycled material - and the trend is rising. In addition, production waste is also returned to the production process. Regenerating raw materials uses less energy than producing new raw materials.

Energy from the region

styro products are manufactured in the middle of the beautiful Schwyz valley, between the "Grossen" and "Kleinen" Mythen and the idyllic "Lauerzersee". With photovoltaic systems on the roofs of our buildings, we produce a large part of our own electricity. What we do not need, we buy from nearby hydroelectric power stations. Working with the electricity company of the canton of Schwyz (ebs Energie AG) is important to us not only for environmental reasons, but also to help maintain jobs in the region.

For the sake of the environment

To minimise our impact on the environment, we heat our offices mainly with waste heat from production. And for cooling in production, we use oxygen-poor groundwater that would be unfit for drinking.

Plastics are not all the same

For some time now, we have been confronted with the question of whether it is still justifiable to produce plastic products in this day and age. Unfortunately, what we see all too often in our oceans is not synthetic, but plastic. Unfortunately, we now live in a throwaway society. Price, rather than quality, is what people buy. Even we cannot escape this trend. That is why we have been forced to produce low-cost drawer boxes for a number of years. In this case, low price means using as little material as possible, because the material content makes up the price. However, less material also means faster breakage. These cheap drawer boxes can also be recycled, but that takes energy. Our high quality plastic products are therefore environmentally friendly in their longevity. And if something does break, parts can be replaced. These high-quality boxes or storage systems may be a little more expensive because of the material content, but they will give you years of pleasure. We can even give a lifetime guarantee on some products with a clear conscience.
